The couple rarely gives joint interviews but they have spoken openly about the way they first met at a party.
An uncovered interview discusses that “fated” initial meeting but then provides a fascinating look into how their relationship functions, with their personal and professional relationships harmoniously coexisting.
“We were there for a birthday party of common friends,” Veronica stated. It was fate. We didn’t want to go, both of us, not at all. But it was a sign of destiny we were there. We met and we were together 24 hours a day since then.”
At the moment, she was a student who was going to take tests. Andrea claims that he realized they were meant to be together right away.
He sang her the aria Occhi Di Fata (Fairy’s Eyes) and begged her to stay when she said she needed to get home and study for exams.
Andrea recalled: “It was the quickest, speediest start, because we moved in with each other th at same night.”
Veronica was just 19 at the time and Andrea has openly discussed the 25-year age gap.
He said: “Big age gaps are a tradition in my family — my own father and mother have one.”
At the time, Andrea had just separated from Enrica Cenzatti, his first wife and te mother of his sons Matteo and Amos, who were five and seven at the time.
On March 21, 2014, the second birthday of their daughter Virginia, Andrea and Veronica were married.
Veronica and Andrea share the stage in the interview with Alan Titchmarsh of ITV, which is included below.
“As you heard, her English is much better than my English,” he says after apologizing for his use of the language. For this reason, I decided to stay with her for many years.”
Joking aside, Andrea reveals how he still suffers from stage fright “very much” and that his anxiety extends beyond the actual performing, something Veronica is indispensable in helping with.
By stating, “Let’s say that Andrea is managing himself,” Veronica attempts to minimize the magnitude of her managerial responsibilities. Andrea makes his own decisions; we just need to submit the requests, proposals, and crucial items that arrive at the office.
However, the actor goes into much more detail to explain it: “I don’t want to know what I have to do, even though I know I have a lot of things to accomplish. If not, I get anxious.
In the world of opera, bookings for opera houses are made years in advance, along with arrangements for charity work, TV appearances, recording sessions, and concerts. All of that preparation is handled for him by Veronica.
She jokes: “Don’t ask him what he has to do tomorrow because he doesn’t know.”
